Charleroi of Belgium striker, Victor Osimhen has admitted he was very proud to hit three goals for the under-23 team against Libya, as he says it was his way of proving his doubters wrong.
After his hat trick and an assit helped the Olympic Eagles reach stage two of the African U-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 4-2 aggregate win, footballlive.ng can report that Osimhen will aim to do even better for Nigeria in all subsequent matches for the nation.
The product of Ultimate Sports Academy of Oregun, Lagos added that he was buoyed by the instructions of Olympic Eagles’ coach, Imama Amapakabo, which he said boosted his performance again st Libya, and he hopes more of such will be enacted in future.
He admitted how torrid his career has been since, joining Wolfsburg in 2016, but believes the turnaround has come with his sterling form at Charleroi, which earned him a recall to the national team, with prospects of better days ahead for him at club and country.
Osimhen stated with glee: “I still have enough in store for the national teams and I’m going to continue to build on this momentum and do well for the national teams.
“I had a difficult time in Wolfsburg and I think Charleroi have really helped me a lot and I am grateful to them also.
“For me, in the national team, I think we were able to take out the coach’s instructions.
“This is the most important thing, to be disciplined with the instructions the coach gave us. It was the key to our winning also.”
