Onyekuru Steals the Show as Adana Demirspor Records Big Win

Henry Onyekuru netted a brace in Adana Demirspor’s 6-0 demolition of relegation threatened Istanbulspor.

Few would have expected an upset when both teams clashed, with Adana Demirspor clear favourites for the encounter, but many would not have envisaged the thorough bashing that was dished out.

For a match with a lot of goals it took 29 minutes and the intervention of VAR for the hosts to get the lead.

Younès Belhanda was fouled in the box but after the referee waved play on for the initial foul he was called by VAR and a penalty was given, the Moroccan stepped up and coolly dispatched it.

Starting the second half with a goal advantage Vicenzo Montella’s side really came into life, Yusuf Sari got the second goal just four minutes after the restart.

Belhanda then turned provider for Henry Onyekuru’s first goal of the night and Adana’s third in the encounter.

Another penalty was awarded in favour of Adana Demirspor and Badou Ndiaye duly converted to continue to dominance.

Coach Vincenzo Montella made a series of changes and introduced Emre Akbaba just 20 minutes to the end of the encounter.

The Turkish Midfielder responded with two assists, first for Onyekuru to grab his brace and the second for Gokhan Tore to round up the scoring.

It is looking like a productive season for the Nigerian winger who now has six goals and an assist in 15 appearances in the Super Lig.

Meanwhile, the victory takes them to fourth and within a point of Başakşehir FK for a Europa Conference league spot.

Interestingly, they will have a chance to overtake their rivals when they face them in the next fixture.
