Onyedika steals the show on his Club Brugge debut


Raphael Onyedika got his Club Brugge debut in a derby, on Friday, and though the summer signing would have hoped it was in a different circumstance, he did use the opportunity to show once again, why he is a genuinely, promising talent.

Onyedika was named.onnthe bench in the Jupiler League clash against Cercle Brugge, but was soon asked to suit up as early as the 29th minute after the injury to 29 year-old Angolan Midfielder, Clinton Mata.

Quickly, Raphael Onyedika asserted himself in the game and was breaking up play, mopping up as well as initiating the transition into attack.

The 21 year-old’s work rate were  reflected in the stats sheet with 3 tackles Attempted, 2 interceptions, 3 clearances, 2 blocks, 3 aerial Duels, 44 touches on the ball and completed 31 successful passes.

His efforts no doubt contributed to his side’s victory on the night, at the Jan Breydelstadion.

The home side cruised to an emphatic 4-0 win, courtesy of goals from Andreas Olsen (43′), a Jean Marceline own goal (59′), Casper Nielsen (67′) and Roman Yaremchuk’s late strike in the 82nd to end the contest.

Club Brugge move to within two points of league leaders Royal Antwerp, who themselves win their game against Royal Union SG in an dramatic six-goal thriller.

The game had two two Nigerians clash, Alhassan Yusuf for Antwerp and Victor Boniface with the visitors at the Bosuilstadion, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, next up for Raphael Onyedika and his teammates is a midweek game in the UEFA Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen.
