Hoffenheim were yet against roundly beaten in the Bundesliga following a 3-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen at the PreZero Arena on Saturday.

The defeat means Hoffenheim’s winless streak stretch to 10 Bundesliga games and they are now just three points above the drop zone.

A goal inside the opening six minutes of the encounter set the ball rolling for the visitors, Florian Wirtz creating the opportunity for Robert Andrich to strike.

Leverkusen got their second goal in the 47th minute through Moussa Diaby, before Adam Hlozek rounded up the goals on the day for the visitors.

Hoffenheim got a consolation in the 77th minute when Stanley Nsoki produced a first-time shot from inside the box.

Meanwhile, Kevin Akpoguma suited for Hoffenheim, making his 16th appearance for the club this season.

Akpoguma was named in the starting XI and played the entire duration. He picked up a yellow card in the 50th minute.

It has been a difficult run for the Nigerian and his teammates as they remain winless since the turn of the year, the last victory in the league was way back in October 2022.

Pellegrino Matarazzo was in the dugout for his first game in charge since the sacking of Andre Breitenreiter – six days ago.

Hoffenheim have picked only a point in the five league games since the turn of the year.
