Nelson Esor Okwa believes Rivers United have put their poor form behind them after beating Remo Stars.
The Pride of Rivers won 1-0 against the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Group A relegation strugglers at the Gateway International Stadium.
Substitute Justice Charles struck the match winning goal in the second stanza.
Rivers had lost their three previous games in the NPFL before the morale boosting result on the road to Remo Stars.
Okwa however told Footballlive.ng after the final whistle that Rivers United had stopped the rot.
“It ended here. We’ve got our spirit back and we’re back on track,” the attacking midfielder said.
“When we lose we have to work harder to get back to good results.
“We’ve got a good feeling again. You can see how enthusiastic this team are to keep winning.
“There were good moments at the start of the game and I was able to finish it off with a goal.”
The former Kogi United playmaker added that the Rivers United players were stung by their run of poor form but are now eager to build on Sunday’s victory with a home game against Niger Tornadoes next weekend.
“Losing always hurts. I was hurt and so were my teammates,” he said.
“But you have to keep working hard and move on.
“Now we’ve got a good game against Niger Tornadoes but we know it’ll be difficult.
“We’ll go into it wanting to play our way, with enthusiasm, until the end.”
