Okafor Signs Professional Contract With Basel

Date:

FC Basel youngster, Noah Okafor has signed his first professional contract with the Swiss Super League champions, where he is now expected to stay until at least June 30, 2020.

Consequently, the 17-year-old Okafor has been promoted to Basel’s first team and handed jersey number eleven for the remainder of the season.

Okafor was arguably Nigeria’s most outstanding player in the group stage of the UEFA Youth League; he was directly involved involved in 6 goals (2 goals, 4 assists) in five matches.

The goal-scoring midfielder notched 8 goals in 12 appearances in the Swiss U18 Elite League this season.

Basel’s sporting director, Marco Streller said he is happy with the progress being made by Okafor, who has caps for Switzerland’s U15 and U17 national teams

Streller said: ”Noah is a very versatile player, a great talent from our own rank. Many top clubs in Europe showed a real interest in him, so we are very happy that he has made the commitment to FCB and that we have been able to retain him.”
