Gateway United’s sensational Ogun FA Cup run continued with a 3-nil victory over Remo Stars Youth Team at Gateway International Stadium, Ilaro.
The game started pulsatingly with both teams being cautious of their defence but rather turned the midfield into a battlefield. However, in the 37th minute, Ikechukwu Julius broke the deadlock with a stunning header from
okolo Michael’s corner kick.
Gateway’s enterprising attack then materialised again three minutes after as Michael Okolo turned scorer with a rebound following Fatai Bakare’s long range effort.
The other half saw an improved Remo Stars with array of attacks but inefficient execution became their undoing.
Akeem Busari’s side wouldn’t rest on their oars as Kola Odumbaku latched on to Michael Okolo’s pass to chip the ball over onrushing Remo Stars’ goalie for the third goal in the 67th minute.
In the dying minute, Remo Stars youth team was awarded a penalty but Adamu Azeez expertly parried Agbeko Morgan’s low shot to secure a clean sheet.
Reacting to the game, Gateway United head coach Akeem Busari said the competition is living up to expectations for his boys with another impressive showing ahead of the NNL match day 2 fixture against Dynamite FC in Auchi.
“Another beautiful performance no doubt. We are using the F.A cup to size up before we face Dynamite FC on Saturday in the Nigeria National League. So as it is, the preparation still continues”, he said.
Gateway United will trade tackles with Nilayo FC in the semi final of the 2019 Ogun FA Cup on Wednesday 24th April, 2019.
