The much talked about duel and the battle for leadership of group A between Delta Queens and the visiting Rivers Angels ended 1-0 in favour of Delta Queens as both teams locked horns in the clash of the titans.
The first 30 minutes of the proceedings were practically for Delta Queens as they restricted played Rivers Angels in their own half with the home side goal keeper appearing more like a spectator.
The pressure finally paid off for the Okowa babes in the 45th minute when the River’s Angels goal keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie fouled Delta Queens Oghenerugba Tobi.
The goal keeper had gone for a save and caught the player’s leg in the process, resulting to a Penalty.which was converted by Maryann Ezeanagu to give the home side a much deserved lead in the first half.
The visitors came out forcefully in the second half but they could not break the home side who held on to the one nil lead to the end of play.
Speaking in a post match interview, the Technical Adviser Delta Queens, Coach George Emenetie praised his team’s resilience in holding forth for the much needed three points.
He said the game at home against Rivers Angels was instrumental in deciding what happens in the group and sharing the point would have been heart breaking.
” I am very happy on how the game went. This is the league and every three points is very important.”
“It was our first home game, the expectation was high and pressure was high too but thank God we had the win and held on to it.”
Also Speaking the goal Scorer, Maryann Ezeanagu said they will push on as a team to ensure a top four Finish for a place in the Super Four.
She dedicated the goal to the God saying its been a team work and they intend to do better as the league progresses.
“We are very happy we got the three points here in Asaba to go top in Group A.
” River’s Angels is not a small side in the league to we will hold on to this lead with everything in game.
The win according to Ezima Oris have put Delta Queens top of the log while Rivers Angels and FC Robo followed respectfully with Osun Babes occupying the bottom of the table
