Al Fayha secured a narrow 1-0 victory on Thursday night against Al Hilal to reach the semi-final of the Saudi Super Cup.

Anthony Nwakaeme started for Al Fayha, but his compatriot Odion Ighalo was not even listed in the matchday squad.

Nwakaeme has been integral to Al Fayha’s impressive form since joining the team as a free agent in the summer of 2022.

On Thursday night he featured for forty-five minutes, but was replaced at the break as Al Fayha pulled a stunning victory against the most successful team in the competition.

A 21st minute goal by Paulinho proved to be enough to decide the game.

While Al Fayha might be facing the battle of their lives to survive the drop in the Saudi Pro League, they’ll quickly turn their attention to the final of the Super Cup.

The Orange face Al-Ittihad in the final on January 29, the latter defeated Al Nassr 3-1 to reach the final.
