Nwakaeme: The striker with poise, class and power

Our writer Ademetan Abayomi puts the spotlight on the man of the moment Anthony Nwakaeme.

The attention that Trabzonspor’s Nwakaeme has garnered recently is really quite impressive. Of course, this is not as impressive as the way in which he’s earned the interest, scoring five goals in the last four games at the time of writing. He has been getting a lot of people excited in the Turkish Super Lig. The former Hapoel Beer Sheva star is scoring goals for fun.
The Nigerian international is a delight to watch on the ball. He moves the ball with pace when he needs to, and skillfully so. His strength takes him past even the most capable defenders in the league, and when he does, expect him to finish.
It’s not rare to see him holding off defenders on the edge the box, and these positions, he’s always in more than capable company. These are the situations in which his individual brilliance really shines. The 29-year-old will often take a shot on from here, and he’s proven time and time again that he can do so with poise, class and power.
With his combination of striking brilliance and elegant dribbling, coupled with his impeccable statistics you will be surprised he is out of favor in the Super Eagles squad.
It looks like it will also be Nwakaeme’s first and last season in the Super Lig. His red hot form has him up on the radar of a lot of clubs in Europe.
Wherever he goes, two things are probable. First, he’ll be going for somewhere around 10-15 million. Second, he’s going to be scoring a lot of goals.
