John Obi Mikel came on as a substitute as Turkish side Trabzonspor defeated Sparta Prague in the Europa League 3rd round at the Medical park.

Mikel, who captained Nigeria to the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, replaced goal scorer Alexander Soerloth in the 81st minute as Trabzonspor won 4-3 on aggregate.

The former Chelsea player won the Europa League with the Blues in 2013 and will hope to replicate that title-winning form with his new Turkish Club.

While Mikel had few minutes under his belt, his compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme was on for the entire duration as the Turkish side progressed to the next round.
