NPFL defending champions, Rivers United beat Bendel Insurance 2-1 to end the latter’s 21-game unbeaten run in the League in their Super 6 match up, Friday, at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan.

Insurance came into the game with an unprecedented record of 21 consecutive games unbeaten, stretching back to the beginning of the abridged league season.

Rivers United, on the other hand, were perceived to be the stronger team and were tipped to win the game as they have a better squad depth in their ranks.

The League defending Champions took the lead with only a few moments to the end of the first half, when Chukwu Morice struck home from close range.

After the restart, Insurance tried to get a goal back at least to perhaps force a draw, but, Stanley Eguma’s men held their ground.

Eventually, Rivers United got their second goal through Joseph Onomah who scored after being put through on goal on the stroke of regulation time.

Bendel Insurance pulled one back and it was new Super Eagles invitee, Divine Nwachukwu, five minutes after regulation time.

Rivers United are well and truly on course to defend their title as they currently lead the table with eight points heading into the final round of matches on Sunday.
