The first half of the NPFL season was concluded last month and the abridged league, despite, the initial reservations has produced some interesting outcomes.

Beyond all expectations the minnows have crashed the party, as Bendel Insurance top Group A, amassing 23points – the most points by any team after nine games.

In group B, Lobi Stars are top of the table with 19points, but they have defending champions, Rivers United on their heels.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Stars are enjoying one of their best campaign in more than five years, head Coach Edith Agoye, might want to brace himself for the second half-of the-league Curse at the club.

Back to the league Champions, Rivers United, whilst they have one of the best assemblage of players in this season, besides Enyimba, Plateau United, Kwara United to mention a few, the defence haven’t had been an inconsistent ride this far.

Of course, Stanley Eguma’s men have had to joggle playing on two fronts, their next game, while the league observes this rest period, comes up Wednesday against Motema Pembe in the CAF Confederation Cup in Uyo.

The goalless result against Abia Warriors in their rescheduled game means they can’t catch Lobi even if they win their second game in hand – vs Enugu Rangers; the stats have not be very impressive.

Again, Insurance top another important stats sheet, thanks to the team’s defending.

Head Coach Monday Odigie brought his experience to bear in that department and the team has conceded the least number of goals so far.

On the end, Plateau United have the most lethal attack in the league, having scored a total 23 times, four more than the closest team.

In spite of his 7 goals and League’s top scorer position, Enyimba’s Chukwuemeka Obioma (7), is in the shadows of debutant, Imade Osarenkhoe (6), who could also emerge Player of the season – fingers crossed.

The NPFL will return on March 25 for the conclusion of the first round before the top three teams from each group will proceed to battle it out in the Super 6 playoffs for a champion to be crowned.
