Players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) have received a strong assurance that they will be allowed to compete for shirts in the Super Eagles’ final squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
This is the bold promise coming from Eagles’ coach, Gernot Riohr, who footballlive.ng can report is happy that he eventually has four home-based players in the squad preparing to battle Seychelles and Egypt.
Rohr noted that Eyimba of Aba’s duo of Ikouwem Udo Utin and Valentine Ozornwafor as well as Ndifreke Effiong from Akwa United of Uyo and Ikechukwu Ezenwa from Katsina United will add competition to the team in the battle for shirts to the continental soccer showpiece.
He hinted further ahead of Friday’s AFCON 2019 final qualifier against Seychelles and Tuesday’s international friendly wirh Egypt, both billed for Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, that he will not overlook the NPFL quartet in arriving at his line-up for the encounters.
Rohr stated: ”We have invited Effiong from Akwa United, so we have four home-based players.
”We have Udo, the captain of the U20 team, who played very well in the last U20 AFCON.
“We also have Ezenwa and Valentine who is a tall defender and good. There is competition for our list for the Africa Cup of Nations.”
