It was a clash of the Nigerian Midfielders in the Jupiler Pro League as Club Brugge played host to Royal Antwerp at the Jan Breydel Stadion.

The host were held to a 2-2 draw despite haven been ahead by two goals. Both Raphael Onyedika and Al Hassan Yusuf were in action for the entirety of the game for their respective clubs.

Brandon Mechele got the first goal, firing Club Brugge ahead in the 35th minute and Noa Lang doubled for them in the 62nd minute.

However, Michael Frey halved the deficit from a Vincent Janssen assist in the 75th minute before the latter converted from the penalty spot to ensure the equaliser three minutes later.

The draw means Royal Antwerp remains second and Club Brugge follow closely in third position in the league, but both can drop should Royal Union win against St Liege.

Sunday’s result between second and third also means Paul Onuachu’s Genk maintain an 8 point lead – having played one game less – heading into the World Cup break.
