Former Nigerian midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has tipped in form striker Victor Osimhen to win the African Footballer of the Year award as a reward for his goal scoring exploits for Napoli this season.

Despite not participating at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Osimhen’s goals return for Napoli has been unmatched.

The 24 year-old is currently the Serie A top score and is inspiring Napoli’s end for a 33-year league title drought.

Multiple winners, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane have been subpar this season, and in a chat with FL, Adepoju argued that Osimhen has opened a big lead ahead of the competition.

“Nobody is at the level he is now, and I believe that he still has time ahead and if now was the moment to pick the African best player, I believe he has everything to win it,” Adepoju told FL.

“It will be good for him and for Nigeria and we will all be happy to have another African best player.”
