Former Nigeria Forward, Henry Makinwa has urged Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro, to “inculcate the spirit of merit” into the team.
Makinwa argues that the best ever Super Eagles set which consisted of Kanu Nwankwo, Uche Okechukwu and the set of ’94 are revered only because they were assembled on merit.
The former Vandrezzer FC and Abia Warriors Coach also stated that there are players in the local league who capable can hold their own in the best teams across Europe
He explained that the limitation for home based Players is because they don’t have the opportunity.
Makinwa insists that Super Eagles coach, Peseiro must scout the Leagues back home to identify those talents and give them the opportunity to represent Nigeria.
Speaking with FL, Makinwa emphasized that Super Eagles player should be called up for national assignments only if they truly deserve to represent the country.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will be back in action in the international window to face Guinea Bissau over two legs on September 19th and 27th respectively, in a bid to qualify for the next AFCON tournament.
