Bayelsa United manager, Diepriye Teibowei has talked up the chances of his side to compete for the final six of the NPFL.

The Bayelsa United gaffer has also made qualification for continental football a target this season.

He stressed that the team’s immediate return to the top flight after their relegation two seasons ago doesn’t mean the team will undermine its potentials and compete for top honours.

“The fact that we came from the NNL does not mean we lack quality,” Teibowei said. “And that is why we won the FA Cup; We defeated Akwa United in Uyo and beat other Premier league sides in the Cup. So, yes I believe there is some respect for Bayelsa United.”

“My target is to qualify for CAF places because we have the caliber of players to do that and come out to compete in the super six,” he told FL.

On the importance of starting on a strong foot, the gaffer stressed that there would be no margin for error and will do their best to emulate Bendel Insurance, who shocked former champions, Akwa United at home on the opening day of the new season.

“We have to start well, Insurance has done well, they started well and that is what we want to do too, it is a short season and one mistake can prove very fatal. You have to do well in the first round to make it into the super six, no margin for errors.”
