Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan began their 2019 Nigeria National League campaign with a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Abia Comets on Wednesday.

Abia Comets took a shocking lead at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Shooting missed a golden opportunity to draw level almost immediately as Ahmed Rasheed saw his penalty kick saved by the visitors’ goalkeeper, before Gbadanosi Fatai restored parity through curled in a free kick.

Speaking in a post match conference after the draw in front of full crowd at the Lekan Salami Stadium, 3SC assistant coach Yinka Popoola said the result is a temporary setback and added that the team will regroup for a better performance in next game.

“It was unfortunate we could not win despite dominating the match but that is football for you.

“We have been held at home today but I want to assure you that we will go to our next match away from home and win”.

In the group’s other match, Bayelsa United took command of the group as they beat Osun United 2-0 in Yenagoa.
