Nigeria’s progress to the round of 16 at the FIFA U20 World Cup didn’t come as much of a surprise according to head Coach, Ladan Bosso.

With back to back wins in their opening two group games, Nigeria booked its place in the second round of the World Cup, and need only a point to finish top of the standings with Brazil, Italy and the Dominican Republic trailing.

In a chat with FL, Bosso insists the team always had confidence in overcoming what was perceived as a seemingly difficult group.

He also assured that the Flying Eagles have the right conditioning to go far in the tournament.

“We are here to do what we know how to do best, and prove our worth and of course, with all the support – around the clock – everybody is confident,” Bosso stressed.

“I said it, in Nigeria, before we left when people were scared of the group.

‘I told people that it’s a normal group, and I cited an example of what happened in Niger where we first played Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso.

“It was very difficult but we ended up scoring three goals in the finals and lifting the trophy.”

“The difference is not far from what we are facing here. Meeting the likes of Italy and Brazil, I think is a good thing; a blessing in disguise that we are meeting some of the best teams at the beginning, and I believe that with the trust, confidence and the support we have from the Federation, I think Nigerians will have something to smile about at the end.”
