It was a bad day at the office for Nigerian Clubs on the continent, as the two out of three crashed out of their respective tournaments.

Plateau United were ousted via a dubious penalty in the CAF Champions League, second-leg tie against Esperance.

Ben Romdhane converted the winner from the spot, but replays the Referee for the decision wrong.

The resultant kick was decisive as Plateau United failed to get hold of the game or carve out a meaningful chance to rescue the situation.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side lost 2-2 on aggregate, but will get a chance to redeem themselves in the CAF Confederation Cup final qualifying round.

Elsewhere, Kwara United were beaten 2-0 by RS Berkane in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.

The Nigerian team took a lead of 3-1 into game, however, the North Africans turned it tie on its head and got goals.

The results mean there is hope for Rivers United to be the only team from the country, to represent Nigeria in the elite division, should they overcome Wydad Casablanca.
