Nigeria got a winning start at the WAFU B U17 Championship defeating host, Ghana 4-2 on Saturday.

Wing back Emmanuel Michael sent Nigeria on the way with a spectacular free kick in the 12th minute, which left the Ghanaian goalkeeper, Ahmed Dembaram helpless.
The Nigeria doubled the lead just before the break through forward Precious Williams (44′), hitting home a rebound after the Ghanaian defense failed to clear an earlier effort.
After the restart, the Eaglets extended their lead even further in the 51st minute by Jubril Azeez, but the Starlets reduced the deficit seven minutes later.
Substitute Abdul Razak Salifu got the better of the Nigerian goalkeeper Richard Odoh.
However, Nduka Ugbade’s wards did not let their Oars down and in the 77th minute, midfielder Ebube Okere found the back of the net to make it 4-1.
Ghana got their second from the penalty spot, with the 3 points already in the bag for Nigeria.
With the victory, Nigeria tops Group A ahead of their clash with Togo on Tuesday.
Victory over the Young Hawks will guarantee Nigeria’s Eaglets a semi-final spot in the WAFU B Championship.
Meanwhile, Group B of the Championship comprises Cote d’Ivoire, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic.
