African countries have been at loggerheads in deciding the host of the 2025 AFCON after Cote d’Ivoire who is set to host the next edition.

Nigeria and Benin Republic were set to go head to head against Algeria and Morocco for the continental showpiece and have now been handed a boost with Ghana set to team up in a joint bid for the tournament.

This was made known by Ghana’s Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif in an interview with Kickgh.com, who indicated Ghana’s interest in co-hosting the competition.

“There’s a discussion that Ghana should bid with the likes of Nigeria and Benin. We are still considering it. We have not taken a decision yet but there is that discussion that we should get sister countries so that we can put in that bid.”

This is not the first time Ghana and Nigeria will team up to host the AFCON tournament as they did so in 2008.

The slot to host the tournament was made available after Guinea pulled out of hosting the competition due to a lack of funds to meet up with the requirements to host the tournament.

CAF has set the deadline for submission of bids at December 16 and will be expecting all required documents and information submitted in Cairo Egypt at their headquarters.
