Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have been eliminated from the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil following a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands in their Round of 16 clash in Goiania on Wednesday.
Sontje Hansen gave Netherlands the lead in the fourth minute before Olakunle Olusegun’s goal in the 12 minute restored parity.
Hansen got his second of the game in the 15th minute. A poorly cleared ball fell at the feet of the gifted Hansen on the edge of the box, and he let fly a rasping drive that goalkeeper Daniel Jinadu had no answer to.
11 minutes from time, the Dutch had their third and Hansen his hat-trick, after the Video Assistant Referee spotted a handball off Clement Ikenna.
Hansen swept the ball past Jinadu to complete the routing and book their spot in the quarter-finals, sending the five times champions out of the competition.
