Jose Peseiro’s future as Super Eagles coach has become a subject of major speculation after yet another disappointing result.

In the latest heart wrenching outcome, Peseiro watched helplessly from the technical area as the Super Eagles tried but failed to break Guinea-Bissau’s defensive blocks, in a shock 1-0 defeat to the team ranked 118th in the world.

Among other things though, the debate over the 62 year-old’s tenure as Coach grows louder and very distinct as news of his contract situation emerged.

The Portuguese has only three months left on his current deal, it expires in June, but, there has been no hints of renewal talks between the parties.

Nigeria is still favorite to go through from in their AFCON qualification group, a point Peseiro noted during the post-match Presser.

“Of course (I’ll be surprised),” he laughed when asked if he thought the sack was looming.

“Why would you sack me when I’m still in a position to qualify for the AFCON?”

But, the qualifiers aren’t concluded until September, there are three more games to wrap up the series.

The air of confidence he exuded at the presser doesn’t suggest Jose Peseiro is quite bothered about his contract situation, and with the NFF’s direct financial straits, a sack before June is out of the question.

Perhaps, Peseiro still holds all the cards as he negotiated a short term deal and can opt for a further year, but the Coach is somewhat characterized as a nomad.

The longest he has kept a job is two years, as head coach of Saudi Arabia between 2009 and 2011.

It remains to be seen how this situation unfolds, but there are already talks of the NFF considering their next appointment, and it could be a Nigerian.
