NFF Strikes Deal with Istanbul Basaksehir over Dream Team VII captain

The NFF and Turkish Super Lig side Istanbul Basaksehir have reached an agreement over the availability of U23 Eagles skipper Azubuike Okechukwu for the upcoming U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Head coach of the U23 Eagles , Imama Amapakabo had previously complained about the non availability of invited foreign base players for their Abuja training camp.

Okechukwu is one of the players Amapakabo is banking on for the Olympics qualifying tournament in Egypt.

However, the Club is not interested in releasing the player for the Championship, because it isn’t part of the FIFA calendar.

But, Basaksehir have now agreed to release to the player for the games to hold between 11-19 November, because they’re within the international window this month.

Should Okechukwu be named in the final squad, he will be available for the game against Zambia and South Africa, but will miss the clash against Ivory Coast (Nov 9).

The former Bayelsa United star played a prominent role in the Dream Team VI qualifications for the U23 AFCON AFCON in Egypt.

The tournament will kick off in November 2nd with Nigeria competing in Group B alongside South Africa, Zambia and Cote d’ivoire
