The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has once again officially announced the postponement of the 2023/24 season, initially scheduled to commence on Saturday, September 9.

This decision to postpone the NPFL, according to a statement by the League Board, was made in consultation with various stakeholders.

A key reason cited was for key members to focus on the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Owumi explained, “We have everything set for the kickoff in Ibadan on Saturday but following representations from multiple stakeholders and more cogent is the complex logistics involved in having our Chairman and Clubs leadership travel from Ibadan to Uyo.”

This postponement has been communicated to the clubs, urging them to halt any travel plans that may have been arranged.

Consequently, the opening game between Enyimba and Bendel Insurance on Saturday, September 9, as originally planned will not hold.

The NPFL COO assured that a new kick-off date will be communicated in the coming days.

It’s worth noting that this is the second time the 2023/24 NPFL season has been postponed, having previously been rescheduled from August 26 to September 9.
