Napoli 2-1 AS Roma: Mourinho can’t handle Osimhen

In the recent past Lionel Messi was the main nemesis of Jose Mourinho teams; there’s been a number of players since then, but it seems Victor Osimhen is the newest tormentor with the whip.

Osimhen has faced Mourinho’s AS Roma twice this season and on both occasions has delivered a humbling dent to the prized Hallmark of the Portuguese Master tactician’s game plan – a solid defence.

Following his one-man demolition display in the first-leg Serie A meeting between AS Roma and Napoli, where he scored the match winner, Osimhen returned to haunt Roma in the return leg at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

Buoyed by the team’s dominance this season; sitting top of the table, and the loud support from most of the 50,000 supporters inside the stadium, the Nigerian delivered yet another major act.

He scored a goal-of the-season contender; collecting a lofted pass, first on his chest, then steady it on the thigh before smashing it high into the roof of the net.

A fitting opening goal (17′) in a contest ushered by the electrifying pre-game comments of Mourinho, conceding the Scudetto to Luciano Spalletti’s side and a dig at the chasing pack including his former team Inter Milan and their cross city rivals, AC Milan.

However, Roma didn’t go down without a fight on the day, Stephan El Shaarawy (75′) scored the equalizer with a delightful finish, from one of only 3 shots on target for the Giallorossi.

Meanwhile, Osimhen would be substituted moments later, the Forward was subjected to the brutality of Roma’s defenders and twice needed medical attention.

The Player’s substitution didn’t hinder Napoli, and it was another substitute who would take on the goal scoring responsibility, and strike the death knell.

With four minutes to the end of the encounter, Giovanni Simeone, the son of one of Mourinho’s nemesis – Diego Simeone – smashed home the winner to stretch Napoli’s run in the league.

The Naples team are now 9-1-0 at home, while they also extend their lead at the top of the table to 13points, with 18 round of matches left to play.
