Morocco To Host Club World Cup, FIFA Announce Format Revamp


FIFA has confirmed Morocco as host country of the next edition of the Club World Cup.

Morocco had hosted the 2014 edition of the competition, won by Bayern Munich.

The FIFA Club World Cup would be played between February 1 and February 11 with European champions, Real Madrid, the biggest team to feature in the competition.

Brazil’s Flamengo will compete as the current Copa Libertadores champions and CAF Champions League winners, Wydad AC have also been confirmed.

Seattle Sounders from the MLS, Auckland City from Australia would also participate in the tournament, alongside two yet to be named teams.

Meanwhile, the tournament will wear a new look in 2025, when the number of competing team will be increased.

On Friday, FIFA announced approval for 32 teams to vie in the CWC as against the current format of 7 clubs.

The 32-team format was ready for 2021 edition in China but for the coronavirus pandemic.
