Former Nigeria and Chelsea FC midfielder John Obi Mikel, has made known his stance on the situation of things between Cristiano Ronaldo and his former club, Manchester United.
The Premier League club terminated the contract of the 37 year-old forward after his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.
Mikel Obi has now expressed his displeasure at Ronaldo in an interview with Dubai Eye and said he has never been a fan of the Portuguese, because he has so much ego.
“I’ve never been a Ronaldo fan really,” Mikel said. “For me, when a player has so much ego, I don’t really get it. He’s never been one of my favorite players and that’s why I always go for Messi really.”
Recall that John Obi Mikel himself has a history being accused of lacking humility and being rude towards many local journalists and even people he was thought to be friends with before his big break.
Legendary Nigerian music artiste, 2baba (Tuface Idibia) comes to mind, as Mikel appeared to have snubbed him at an event.
The incident birthed a song from the legendary musician, as he addressed the situation, only without mentioning the name of John Mikel Obi on the “Only Me” track.
It was however, obvious to those who knew about the incident that involved the two at that time, so much that it not only seemed obvious in the lyrics, but on the music video as well.
He went on to give his personal assessment of the whole scenario that played out between Ronaldo and Manchester United.
“I mean, if someone comes out and gives such an interview, what makes you think, if he signs for your club in January, he won’t do the same?”
“So, I mean, every club is going to be aware of that, but listen, he is Cristiano Ronaldo; he’s one of the greatest players ever to have played the game. I think he’s going to get another club in January and continue his football career.
“But for me, it’s just a horrible scenario, he’s done so much for the club, and to see it end this way, it’s just horrible. On his part really, I would say that interview shouldn’t have been done, wrong timing as well.”
“It’s just not right. It doesn’t look right for such a player that has achieved so much in the game.”
