Midfielder John Mikel Obi is ready to stage a return to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations coming up in Egypt.
The Nigerian team returned to the continental showpiece for the first time after missing the last two editions without their Captain.
Mikel has not played for the Super Eagles since 2018 World Cup in Russia where Nigeria failed to qualify for the round of 16, although the head Coach Gernot Rohr has always maintained that the former Chelsea player remains an integral part of the team.
Rohr had earlier disclosed that he would have to meet with the player in London to discuss his availability for the tournament and also use the opportunity to check on other Super Eagles players in the English Premier League.
Footballlive.ng has now scooped from a reliable source closed to the Nigeria Football Federation that the discussion between the Franco-German coach and his Captain went well and the latter is ready to return for the AFCON.
Rohr will release his 26-man provisional squad for the competition this week with Mikel expected to be included.
The Super Eagles will begin preparation for the 32nd Africa Cup of Nations on 2nd June in Asaba, Delta State.
They will play a friendly game with the Warriors of Zimbabwe on 8th June at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba before flying to Egypt the following day.
The three time African Champions has been placed in Group B of the competition alongside Burundi, Madagascar and Guinea.
