Mikel Obi debuts for Trabzonspor in Europa League qualifier

John Obi Mikel made his debut for Turkish Super Lig outfit, Trabzonspor in their 2-2 draw against Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday.

The former Chelsea Midfielder was handed a starting shirt by manager Unal Karaman, but made way for Alexander Soerloth at the restart.

 

Mikel joined Trabzonspor on a two-year deal as a free agent after deciding not to renew his contract at English Championship side Middlesbrough.

 

He is expected to play a major role in the Turkish team this season going by his starting role in an away game in the Europa League.

 

Another Nigerian on the bills of Trabzonspor, Anthony Nwakaeme was also fielded by the coach and played the entire duration as they secured a valuable 2-2 draw away from home.
