Mikel, Ibitoye Lend Support To Rohr’s 30-player List

Date:

Tianjin Teda of China midfielder, John Mikel Obi and Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye have both given their voice of support to the 30-player World Cup provisional list rolled out on Monday by the coach, Gernot Rohr, with a view that the Franco-German gaffer has called up Nigeria’s best legs of the moment.

While Ibitoye affirmed that Rohr has rewarded most of the lads for the roles they played in the qualifiers, Mikel said he is happy with the roster and believes all the players invited have what it takes to make the country proud in Russia.

The Eagles captain, who has been a regular face in the national team since his debut in 2006 and he will be gunning for his second World Cup appearance, said he is looking for another historic outing, after missing the 2010 edition in South Africa through injury.

“The list is okay to me. It’s a good list and I’m happy with it,” Mikel affirmed, just as Ibitoye disclosed that all invited players are expected to report to the team’s hotel in Uyo next Monday, barring any last minute changes.

The Eagles’ spokesman further assured Nigerians that the players selected for the World Cup camp were duly selected as they represent the best legs the country can boast of at the moment.

“These are the best legs without a doubt; majority of them took us through the qualifiers unbeaten in a tough group with a game to spare, so we are confident they have what it takes to deliver in Russia.

“These are young and very hungry set of individuals who will give all to succeed. At this stage, we can’t begin to fault the composition of the list. We can only pray for them to remain fit and healthy.

“All players invited by the coach are expected to be in camp on Monday, May 21 as camp will officially open in Uyo for the game against DR Congo on the 28th of this month,” Ibitoye submitted.
