Mendy concedes second UCL goal but Chelsea take care of business in Lille to reach UCL last 8

Edouard Mendy was beaten for only the second time in the UCL this season, but Chelsea went on to seal a 2-1 victory in the second leg of the R16 Champions League match against Lille to advance into the quarter finals with a 4-1 aggregate win.

Mendy was breached from the penalty spot (38′) by Burak Yilmaz after midfielder Jorginho was penalized for a hand ball.
The veteran Forward beat the Senegalese to give Les Dogues the lead and a lifeline in the hope of a comeback with the aggregate score at 2-1.
But, the defending Champions eventually cranked it up with goals from Christian Pulisic to level in additional of the first half, before Cesar Azpilicueta’s goal in the 71st minute end the contest.
Chelsea sealed their progress into the final 8 while conceding just five goals and Mendy shipped in just two.
The 1-0 defeat to Juventus in the group stage and Lille’s penalty were the only times the 30 year-old has been breached in the competition this season – no goalkeeper with more than three appearances this season in the UCL has conceded that few.
So far this season only two goalkeepers have kept five clean sheets (the most in the competition), who have played more than six games: Mendy and Benfica’s Odisseas Vlachodimos.
