Major Blow for Napoli and Victor Osimhen

The International window is not without its hazards and the causality for Nigerian players have began to roll in with Victor Osimhen the latest victim.

Osimhen played 180minutes of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau.

The 24 year-old has now been ruled out of action for at least two weeks for Napoli, a precarious situation for Gli Azzurri.

On Friday, Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis gave the update on the Forward, who returned to Naples after the international break.

He suffered a muscular injury to the adductor in his left thigh and will be out for 2 weeks, which means he’d miss the Serie A fixture against AC Milan.

Osimhen is also at risk of not being fit enough to feature in the first leg, quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League against the same Opponent.

“He should be out for a couple of weeks, we hope,” said the President.

“These are games where any result could happen, you can never know. Milan have some great players, they too are missing someone, and we hope it will be a balanced, entertaining match for the two sets of fans. This is what football should bring us.”

This season, the Nigerian has 21 goals in 23 league appearances and 4 goals in 5 UCL matches.
