Sparta Rotterdam live to fight another day following Wednesday’s 2-0 win against Zwolle in the relegation battle and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye put in a decent show to give his side a fighting chance to beat the drop this season.
Okoye, who leaves Rotterdam for London at the end of the season, showed some of the quality that caught the interest of Watford’s scouts.
The 21 year-old made 3 big saves to inspire a spirited Sparta side on the night to march onto to victory against the now relegated Zwolle at the Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel.
Adil Auassar and Vito van Crooij’s goals in the 3rd and 24th minutes respectively proved enough to decide the game as Maurice Steijn’s team climbed out of the red zone.
Victory stretched their unbeaten run to three on the bounce and moves them to 15th place, on the same point as Fortuna Sittard in 16th but with a better goals difference.
Next for Okoye and his teammates is a trip to Heracles at the weekend, and in the final round of matches this season.
The team’s away form in the last five games is a sharp contrast from their home form, and with only two wins from five games, the trip to the Erve Asito is a decider.
