Lookman helpless as Atalanta suffers New Year setback

Ademola Lookman was in action for Atalanta as they overcame a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 away to Spezia.

The disappointing result however means that Atalanta avoid a defeat after losing three league games in a row before the turn of the year.

This is a contrasting form compared to how well they started the season and were tipped to finish in the top four.

Gian Piero Gasperini will be looking for solutions as he works to tackle this poor form.

The Nerazzurri have now lost four of their last six games, and the draw today means they picked only four points from a possible 18.

Ademola Lookman was in action for 57 minutes and was hauled off after he was effectively marked out by Spezia’s imposing defenders.

Spezia took an early two-goal lead within 30 minutes and M’Bala Nzola was the architect with a goal and assist but Atalanta rallied back to get at least a draw thanks to Gasperini’s impact substitutions.

Davide Zappacosta and Mario Pasalic were the heroes from the bench, Zappacosta got the assist for the first goal while Pasalic was in the right place to tap in a stoppage time equalizer.

The result means Atalanta are currently in 7th but will be leapfrogged by Roma if the Capital team wins at home against Bologna.
