Lobi Stars Football Club Of Makurdi ended the Nigerian Professional Football League season in the second position with an unbeaten run in eight matches as they held Remo stars of Sagamu to a draw in their last match away from home.
The defending champions proved that their winning the league last season was not a fluke as they finished second on the league table while also qualifying for the super six.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with www.footballlive.ng, head coach of the Makurdi champions Chief Evans Ogenyi expressed mixed feelings at the feat.
While expressing happiness at the team’s qualification for the super six, he said “we are happy to have finished the season in second place while also qualifying for the super six. It has been our dream to play in the super six.” I am equally sad the late Coach Solomon Ogbeide is no more to see the team qualify. “I wept profusely after the match. He taught me the rudiments of the job.”
Ogenyi concluded by praying for the repose of the soul of the late coach.
