England held on in the final five minutes of regulation time against Nigeria after Lauren James was shown a straight red for stumping on an opponent.

James stumped on Michelle Alozie capping a frustrating night for the Lioness star, but the teams still couldn’t break the deadlock.

Honduras center Referee, Melissa Borjas had initially shown the England player a yellow card, but, upon a second opinion via VAR the yellow was rescinded and a straight Red awarded.

Despite the numerical advantage Nigeria couldn’t break the European Champions, even with the 5:58 minutes additional time played.

Meanwhile, Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega were introduced in the second half.

The teams will play 30 minutes extra-time.
