Pillars broke their duck in the Aiteo Cup with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory against Niger Tornadoes and that victory is one for the fans and entire state according to Emmanuel Bature Yaro.
Pillars had previously reached the final just twice in their 29-year existence, the most recent being last season when they lost in dramatic fashion to Rangers.
The team was inspired in Kaduna by the their number fan, the Governor Kano State, who also promised each player $1000 if they emerged victorious, Yaro disclosed.
“The trophy has never been to Kano and we thank God we won it. Irrespective of the continental ticket we had going into the game we were going for the trophy,” Yaro told footballlive.ng
“We are happy for the prestige this will bring to the people of Kano state because they have been behind us come rain, come sun. And we prayed and promised the trophy which we did.
“There were promises and we know Kano Pillars do fulfill promises. The Governor came and promised each of us a thousand dollar before the game.”
