Kwara United got the better of AS Douanes of Niger in the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary qualifiers, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday.

The Harmony boys won the contest 3-nil as a goal from Samson Paul and a brace from Wasiu Jimoh in the first half ensured that they take a massive advantage to Niger.

The highlight of the encounter was in the second half when AS Douanes came out, all guns blazing and they put in a spectacular second half performance to suggest that the second leg in Niger won’t be a formality for the NPFL side.

In a chat with FL, Coach Muhammad Azeez Audu lamented the lack of goals in the second half and his players taking their foot off the pedal.

The Kwara United boss insists that little details were what hindered his side from extending their lead, but, feels confident that they will go back to the drawing board and correct those second-half lapses.

AS Douanes will host the Nigerian team on September 18, in the return fixture.
