Katsina United U15 squeeze past Sunshine Stars, set up final against Kwara United


The young Katsina United defeated Sunshine Stars U15 1 – 0 in the second semifinal of the ongoing NPFL/Laliga U15 Promises Tourney at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja

Katsina United that were beaten 3 – 1 by ABS FC of Ilorin in the final of the first Edition of this prestigious youth tournament in Nigeria have qualified to the final once again and will battle yet another fierce opponent from Ilorin in Kwara United U15.
Abdulrasheed Shehu who is arguably the best player of the tournament brilliant strike on 38 minutes was the difference between these two young sides at stoppage time.
It was a slow start to the second semifinal at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja as both teams looked jaded and tired.
However, the game burst to live on 15 minutes when Sunshine Stars won a freekick in a dangerous position but the resultant curling effort from the boot of Adeoti was brilliantly saved  by Katsina United goalie Abubakar Husaini.
Sunshine Stars got their second shot at goal just two minutes later but Meduaye thunderous goal bound strike was blocked to safety by Abdullahi Salisu of Katsina United
Katsina United U15 would then fight back and come close on 22 minutes but their first shot on target from Abdularaheed Shehu who lashed onto a  flick by Yakubu was saved by Sunshine goalie.
The Centre referee called for Water Break on 23 three minutes and game was delayed for five minutes owing to the fact that Sunshine Stars goalkeeper was receiving medical attention
Sunshine Stars goalie was forced to another super save following a close range volley heading for top corner from Saliu Sani but the brilliance of goalkeeper Sodiq Raheem denied him a goal.
A long range effort from Abdulhakeem Yahaya that could have broke the deadlock for Katsina United crashed against the cross-bar as the referee signaled the end of first half.
Abdulrasheed Shehu finally gave Katsina United the lead just three minutes into the second half with a brilliant solo effort.
Goal scorer Abdulrasheed Shehu would have doubled Katsina United advantage on 41 minutes but his long range drive was parried to safety by Sunshine Stars all action goalie to keep his team in the game.
Adejimi Peter tried to conjour something for Sunshine Stars on 47 minutes but his move was eventually thwarted by Katsina United defender.
Sunshine Stars threw more men forward after tactical substitution by the coach but Katsina United stood their ground to keep them at bay.
The Akure team knocked and poked but could not find the equalizer as ‘The Young Changi Boys’ ran away with a slim victory to set up final match with Kwara United.
The final between Katsina United and Kwara United will go down on Sunday.


  1. From me abdulhakim yahaya I’m very proud of myself for wearing katsina United u 15 shirt and else won trophy twise 2019 and 2021 I have nothing to say more than I’m appreciate of god, but I have a second dreem I want seen myself wearing national team shirt
