Sunday game lived up to its billing as both teams displayed good football artistry to the delight of the spectators in the stadium.
The first clear cut chance of the game rested on Tope Olusesi who unleashed a powerful long range drive at goal but Ikechukwu Ezenwa was on hand to make the save and deny the hosts an early lead just three minutes into the proceedings.
Star winger Tasiu Lawal and Eric Gwammy were the jokers in the Katsina team as they were lively and kept Rangers defense on their toes with constant threat on both flanks
However, Eric Gwammy was guilty of a gfago the possession away on 17 minutes which eventually resulted to the only goal of the game.

Adubi Akpos won possession from Eric Gwammy before supplying a through ball to Seca Pascal who was left unmarked, he raced towards the ball and unleashed a thunderous strike beyond the save hands of Ezenwa to give the hosts the all important lead on 17 minutes.
Katsina United could have drawn level on 33 minutes after lively Eric Gwammy found space on the edge of Rangers’ box but his goal bound effort was deflected to corner by Isiaka.
On 38 minutes, Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa made a double save from point blank to deny Rangers from increasing the goal tally.
Tasiu Lawal was set up in the box by Musa Suleman who had a fantastic game but his close range strike was saved by Rangers goalkeeper Nana Bonsu just five minutes to first half stoppage time.
‘The Changi Boys’ grew momentum towards the half-time stoppage and dominated 70% of ball possession but could not carve a whole in the defense of Rangers lead by former Enyimba star Isiaka Oladuntoye as the first half ended 1 – 0 in favour of the hosts
It was a ding-dong affair in the early minutes of the second half as both teams decided to build play from the middle of the park which intensify the midfield battle
Katsina United had a chance to restore the parity on 50 minutes from a free kick after Eric Gwammy was upended in a dangerous position but Musa hit his strike against the wall and a follow up effort by Tsawanya Samuel went miles away from the cross-bar
Musa suleman came close once again on 60 minutes but his clever header went inches away from the target as Katsina United continued to chase the game
Enugu Rangers were dealt a big blow on 65 minutes when Kofi Roland was given a marching order by the centre referee for a second bookable offence to give the visitors numerical advantage
Both coaches made tactical changes but the substitutions could not affect the score line as the game ended 1 – 0 in favour of Enugu Rangers
Katsina United next game is against Rivers United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina
