Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi is set to miss out on a trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates by The Gunners, as he will be on national team duty with the Super Eagles, while his club mates head for a warm weather camp.
Footballlive.ng gathered that Iwobi will not be able to make the trip with Arsenal, who will play a game on March 26, as he has a match with Nigeria against Egypt on same day.
Iwobi has already been included in a 23-player list of invitees issued last week by Eagles’ gaffer, Gernot Rohr, for a friendly with Egypt at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on March 26 and the last match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles four days earlier.
Consequently, Iwobi will not make the trip with his club colleagues, even as Arsenal confirmed that they will head to the Middle East as part of a warm-weather training camp ahead of their Premier League run-in.
Arsenal currently sit in the fourth and final UEFA Champions League qualifying spot and have eight Premier League games left to play, which Iwobi will hope to be part of when he returns from international duty.
Before then, The Gunners welcome Stade Rennes of France to Emirates Stadium on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie, which they trail 3-1 from last week’s reverse fixture, during which Iwobi scores his side’s lone goal.
However, following Thursday’s reverse fixture, Arsenal do not have any game until Newcastle United visit on April 1, thereby giving Unai Emery a week to work with his players that will not be on international duty.
Arsenal revealed that the team will spend five days in Dubai, with a friendly scheduled against Al-Nasr Dubai at their newly-built Al Maktou Stadium on March 26.
Emery explained: “It will be great to get some warm-weather training and break up the usual routine as we enter the final stage of the season.
“The facilities in Dubai are fantastic and it will be an honour to be part of the formal opening ceremony for the new stadium.”
