Alex Iwobi was rested by Everton Manager Frank Lampard for the team’s tour of Australia, where they beat Scottish side Celtic on 4-2 penalties in their first game.

Iwobi, who featured for Nigeria last Thursday in the friendly against Portugal, has been one of Everton’s most consistent players this season. He is only one of five players to have appeared in all 15 Premier League games for the Toffees.

However, the 26 year-old was excused from the team’s in-season tour Down Under, where they have one more game to go.

Frank Lampard’s side won their first game, albeit on penalties after it ended goalless in regulation time.

The tour comes as a result of the International break with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ongoing, but Evrton need to find the answers to what has been a topsy turvy season.

Currently 17th in the PL, Everton have only managed to score 11 goals from 15 games, a clear indication of a goal scoring problem in Lampard’s squad.

They only best bottom side Nottingham Forest (8) for the least goals scored in the division.

Of Everton’s 11 goals, Iwobi has over 50 percent contribution (1 goal, 5 assist), but the Nigerian will need more support with the team now faced with yet another relegation battle.

Last season, Lampard came in after the sacking of Rafa Benitez and helped them beat the drop.

Everton have one more game in Australia, they face Western Sydney Wanderers, but are due to return to real action on boxing day in Christmas and against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the PL.
