Iwobi Basks In Euphoria Of Fourth Bull’s Eye

Date:

Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi is basking in the euphoria of his fourth goal of the season for The Gunners, plus rave reviews that are trailing his sterling performance on Saturday.

Footballlive.ng reports that Iwobi shook off critical comments trailing his drop in form the previous weekend to romp home Arsenal’s opening goal against Huddersfield Town, just few hours after latest statistics rated him Nigeria’s most valuable player of the moment.

Iwobi’s return to scoring form came just after reports emerged that he remains Nigeria’s most valuable player in Europe’s top five leagues, with an increase of €8.5m the previous month to €63.7m.

Iwobi’s value is now above Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi, who is second with €55m.

As if to justify the figures that put him top of Nigeria’s highest earning soccer stars, Iwobi got the evening’s opening salvo, before Alexandre Lacazette sealed the 2-1 away win at John Smith’s Stadium.

The 22-year-old Iwobi, who was substituted two minutes from time, had a rating of 7.2, completed 61% passes, won four duels and a clearance, en route to equaling his best log of three goals in a single season of the English Premier League.

Iwobi, whose goal went in with a deflection, will now turn his focus on the UEFA Europa League knock-out fixture against BATE Borisov, with a view to adding to his fourth goal of the season in all competitions.

Although he admitted a touch of luck helped him hit target on Saturday, Iwobi also revealed the level of training and technique The Gunners continue putting in, which he believes helped them on the evening.

“We’ve been working a lot on transitioning when we get the ball, to counter-attack and attack with speed.

“As soon as I saw it in the air and saw the defender coming, I thought I just had to get a good connection.

“Luckily for me it went through the guy’s leg with a bit of a deflection and went in,” Iwobi reasoned.
