Former Super Falcons head coach, Ismaila Mabo has admitted that other national teams in Africa are indeed catching up fast with Nigeria in Women’s football.

The Super Falcons endured a rather underwhelming 2022, including the failed WAFCON title defence.

Waldrum, however, will have a chance at redemption as he seeks to make the most of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand later this year.

Ismaila Mabo, who tutored the Women’s NT to the 1999 edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, has admitted that gone are the days of the team had a strong hold on the continent.

Mabo told Brila FM that, “It is unarguable that they are catching up, there was never a time when I was frightened when we had a match to play; whether friendly matches or not, because we believed our players.

“The players were doing well where ever they played in the world and they don’t disappoint when they get invited, because they give their all.”
