Insurance Fall in Morocco, Rivers United Carries Nigeria’s Hopes

Nigeria’s Cup winners, Bendel Insurance have been dumped out of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Insurance lost 3-2 on aggregate to RS Berkane in the playoff rounds of the competition.

After a feisty 2-2 first leg result in Benin two weeks ago, the Nigerian club set themselves up for an uphill task against the 2022 Champions at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

The second leg in Morocco was a cagey affair, however, the host got the breakthrough late in the first half through Oussama Lamlioui (43′).

Victory for the Orange Boys mean they’ve booked their spot in this season’s Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s second representative in the competition, Rivers United still remain in contention.

Rivers United hosts EF Ouagadougou in the second-leg tie of the final playoff, after the sides’ laborious stalemate in Yamoussoukro.

A win for the former Nigerian champions and they’ll become the country’s only flagbearer in either the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup.
