Injury woes, lack of playing time…Why Ejuke struggled in Germany

Chidera Ejuke was helpless as Hertha Berlin’s relegation from the Bundesliga was after playing a 1-1 draw against Bochum on Saturday.

With just a game to the end of the season, Hertha Berlin are bottom in the Bundesliga, and will be doing business in Bundesliga 2 next season.

Ejuke wasn’t the signing the Berlin team had hoped for when he joined from Russian side CSKA Moscow on loan.

The Winger was largely unconvincing throughout his spell with the club, however, on a personal level, it was a tough season for the Nigerian.

He missed 13 games through a knee injury, and on his return the Club had sacked Sandro Schwarz as manager.

Hertha Berlin appointed Hungarian, Pal Dardai, who wasn’t ready to return Ejuke to action immediately, and the winger went on to rack up less than 100 minutes in five games starting none.

Ejuke wasn’t a starter, but he was always involved. He recorded only 9 starts in his 20 appearances (850 minutes), coming off the bench in the remaining 11 matches.
