Injury Blow for Nigeria ahead of AFCON Qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe

William Troost-Ekong has been been ruled out of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe with a groin injury.

Ekong picked up the injury in Thursday’s AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone and had to be stretched out.
The 28 year-old CB has left the Super Eagles camp according to FL sources and he will return to London, where he will continue treatment.
Nigeria will face Sao Tome and Principe in their second group game on Monday, June 13th.

Meanwhile, there are other injury concerns in the team including for Leon Balogun and Innocent Bonke, both were not listed in the game Yesterday.
Balogun rejoined the Super Eagles after initially pulling out of the USA tour, with an injured he copped playing while on club duty.
When he flew into the Eagles camp last week, the 33 year-old took part in training, but he was left out of the squad that faced the Leone Stars in the 2-1 win.
On his part, Bonke picked up his injury during the friendly against Ecuador; during the USA Tour.
This growing injury list, especially in the defense will certainly have the head Coach Jose Peseiro worried.
A make shift Midfield, without a DM against Sierra Leone nearly cost the team, but with that concern still pending, losing the Stand-in captain and a regular in the back line will require adjustments.
